Paramaribo.com exists because Suriname is wonderful to visit and oddly hard to plan for. Which trips can be booked ahead? What are the entry rules this year? How do you get a bicycle across the river? This is an independent travel guide to Paramaribo and the country around it, written to be useful before you go and on the day.
We are not an official tourism website and are not connected with the government of Suriname, any museum, nature-conservation body or tour operator.
What we cover
- What there is to see: the UNESCO inner city, Fort Zeelandia, Commewijne and the interior.
- Which tours can actually be booked online, described honestly.
- How to get here and around, with realistic journey times.
- Food, money, health, safety and entry formalities.
- Where to sleep in the city.
- When to come, and what each season is like.
How we research
Historical facts follow published sources and the information provided by the sites themselves. Practical details — opening days, routes, formalities — are checked against operators and official sources and reviewed regularly. Suriname changes quickly: exchange rates, flight routes and entry rules have all shifted in recent years. Where something is in flux we say so plainly and tell you to verify, rather than pretend to a certainty that does not exist. Tour ratings and review counts come directly from GetYourGuide, and hotel scores from Trip.com.
How the site is funded
We are a GetYourGuide affiliate partner and link to Trip.com for accommodation. If you book a tour or a room through a link on this site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That is the only way this guide is funded — there is no advertising, no sponsored placement and no paid inclusion in any ranking. Read the full affiliate disclosure.
