The tropical gardens of the Torarica hotel in Paramaribo

Where to Stay in Paramaribo

A small city with three kinds of base: the riverside resorts, downtown, and the quiet residential streets.

Paramaribo is compact, so the choice of hotel is more about atmosphere than distance. Most visitors stay within walking distance of Fort Zeelandia and the Waterkant, and that is what we recommend for a first visit.

The properties below are real Trip.com listings. Star ratings, guest scores and review counts are Trip.com’s and are shown only where the platform publishes them; we show no prices because rates move constantly with season and currency. Each card links out for live rates and availability.

Practical advice

  • Air conditioning and a pool matter more here than in most cities; check both are included.
  • Book early for late December, around Keti Koti (1 July) and during the Dutch summer holidays, when many Surinamese-Dutch families visit.
  • Sleeping outside the city: you can also stay on a plantation at Frederiksdorp in Commewijne or in a river lodge on the Upper Suriname River. These are usually booked directly or as part of a tour.
