A ranking of Paramaribo tours is necessarily short. GetYourGuide lists seven products in Suriname, most of them recent and with few reviews, so we cannot rank by thousands of guest scores as we would in a bigger destination. Instead we rank by usefulness: how much a tour adds to a first visit, how hard the same thing is to arrange yourself, and what it costs.
Ratings and review counts are GetYourGuide’s own and are shown only where they exist. Where a product is new, expensive for solo travellers or really a transport service, we say so.
- Best introduction to the city
Paramaribo: Heritage & Landmarks Private Guided Walking Tour
Five private hours with a local guide through the inner city, Fort Zeelandia, the Palmentuin and the markets, with a meal. Paramaribo’s buildings carry few signs, so a guide adds a lot. It is priced per group of up to three — good value shared, expensive alone.

How to choose
- One day in Paramaribo: walk the inner city in the morning — with the private guide if your budget allows — and take a dolphin boat from Leonsberg at sunset.
- Two or three days: add a Commewijne day: the coffee and plantation tour, or a rented bicycle to Peperpot and Fort Nieuw Amsterdam.
- Five days or more: go inland. Book the three-day interior tour ahead, or arrange a lodge on the Upper Suriname River once you are in town.
- Travelling the Guianas: the Guyana and French Guiana products only make sense as part of an onward journey — none is a day trip from Paramaribo.
What we would arrange locally instead
Some of the best experiences around Paramaribo are simply not sold online. Sunset dolphin trips, bike hire, Brownsberg day trips and Galibi turtle tours are offered by many local agencies around the Waterkant and Kleine Waterstraat, and by most hotels. Ask what is included, how many people the trip needs to run, and pay only against a written confirmation.
